Why I'm Writing this Blog

I am writing this blog because I am on a quest—a winding and difficult journey to find answers to life’s questions, and make the world a better place because I have lived. Many years ago, I was lucky enough to experience a true epiphany—a moment of clarity and, I believe, divine guidance.  In that moment, I knew, on an abstract level at least, what it was I needed to do—it was an unmistakable call to serve and empower others. Yet, perhaps unsurprisingly, my moment of intense clarity was woefully without a convenient label, job title, or career progression, so I embarked on a quest—a quest to discover how to answer that call.  That moment has guided my entire life, and continues to inspire me as I seek to make my life one of truth, light, and social impact.

For me, this is a profoundly spiritual journey, although I understand that for some it may not be, and I fully respect that.  I value objectivity in thinking, and seek to find answers to the world’s problems with scientific rigor.  Objectivity and detachment are necessary to what I seek to do here: ask brave questions about social problems and possibilities.  I want to ask many brave questions, because the questions you ask determine the answers you get: by choosing which questions to ask, you are choosing the part of the truth you want revealed, and thus limiting your answer’s depth and scope.  I am writing this blog to help me discover the full and unbridled truth.

I am writing this blog because I want to understand the social issues that rob people of their dignity, limit their potential, and divide us from each other.  I want to understand the reasons things like poverty, violence, and prejudice still exist, and how to banish them forever.  I want to make an impact---I want to change the world.  Here I will explore how to do that—through organizations, through society, through people.

But most importantly, I am writing this blog because I want you to come with me.  I believe there is depth and meaning to each of our experiences, that each of us has the power and possibility to answer our true calling.  I am on a difficult journey to answer mine, and I want to walk with others as they chart their own paths.  I hope that as I share my struggle to find and walk my path, with all its trials, tribulations, and triumphs, that you will share yours—that we may journey together.  And I hope that as I wrestle with social issues, and impacting those issues on a personal and societal level, that you who care about them will join me in asking difficult questions, in seeking truth, and in summoning the courage to follow where that truth leads.  I hope that my journey will inspire you, and that yours will inspire me—and that we can help each other along the way.

Thank you for joining me, and welcome to Crooked Lines.

  1. Each journey begins with a single step. Wishing you every success on yours and hoping your crooked line connects with many others as you lead toward progress.
